Many thanks, Foster, for the kind words for "Author Meets Unflattering Reviewer in Bar". I'm a tad late here as I let Fictionaut and other daily endeavors slide the past couple of weeks while getting my novel, Sacrifice, ready for a contest and then formatting it for a paperback edition on Amazon. All that's done now, so I have a little catching up to do.
Grazie mille, Foster. I appreciate you taking the time out to read "The Swiss Lunch". I look forward to catching-up on your newest writing...I've been away from Fictionut for too long. It's good to be back.
Thanks for your fantastic comment and fave on "Feeling fences" and indeed, as you astutely noticed, I tried to put a lot of subtext between the lines (just like a fence).
Thank you for feeling the way you did about When Borders was Alive and Well. The old man was real. I saw him coming up an escalator in a giant mall in Maryland. The magnifying glass was poking out of his tweed pocket.
Hi Foster! Thank you for reading and commenting-I would have done this sooner, but Meg just taught me how. I'm so glad you liked "In Time." Marie Fitzpatrick is helping me put a collection of poems together, and I'm working diligently now, but I'll read your work soon.
Foster, thanks for the generous comment and star on After he failed to wake up. And so happy to see you'round the joint again! Hope all is well. Peace...
Foster, I don't think I'd have the guts to be the kind of teacher I portray in "The List," though when I was teaching, I had some squabbles with the administration, and I came out okay.
Foster-thanks so much for your comment and fave on Lettie in the Ozarks. I'm glad it feels real to you. It did to me while I was writing it (especially once I pared 1200 words down to about 650!)
"All this from that little picture?" — it must have been one of those bloodbath days. i don't have many of them & i cherish it when the dark muse comes visiting...thanks foster for commenting!
Hi Forest--
Wow! Thank you for the great commentary on "Family". I was pretty sure I had bombed on this one. But this monologue really got to the essence of my character's voice and story. So glad you enjoyed:)
Thanks, Foster, for the fave of "The Grave of Rimbaud." Appreciate your commenting on the visual aspect of the poem. I remember this being the first poem in which I actually saw in my mind what I was writing about.
Thanks, Foster. We all could've used Bogdan in high school! Bogdan is a common Polish and Eastern European name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogdan Thanks for commenting on and faving the poem.
Ciao Forest--
Sto bene, grazie! Adesso sono a Torino. Grazie mille per il tuo "fave" sul "Fish". Questo capitolo e un piccolo parte di il mio romanzzo. Spero tu sei bene! Grazie ancora. Ciao ciao, Isabell
Thanks for commenting on the Euclid poem. Last line was originally "the geography of space." Made a last minute change! It may change again!! Thanks for the fave.
Foster - many thanks for the comment and reading Burn Baby Burn. I highly doubt you'll ever be that guy. So happy you take the time to read my stories. Appreciate.
I loved your comment on "The Devil's Advocate." Far superior in my book of enlightened men than the more typical idea of getting a daughter when you really wanted a son, but ending up loving her anyway. (Not that there is anything wrong with loving "anyway.")
thanks for being thought-provoked by "under the apple tree", foster, i appreciate you reading & commenting. i'm a bit pressed for time with regard to reading stories at fictionaut these days...still teaching — but the heavy clouds should be gone soon.
Stanza 3 my favorite too--three of my favorites Spanish-language writers as well--Peru, Cuba, Spain. Thanks for commenting on "Prowl Car," Foster. And for all your Twitter support!
Thanks for faving "Mad Love," Foster. It's one of those poems born from extreme paring down. That is to say, I wrote a long poem that didn't work at all, shaved off 7/8 of it, and what was left popped to life!
Foster, thank you so much for your generous appreciation of PHANTOM SISTER. Very much appreciated, and started to dig into your stuff (always nutso at the end of Spring semester). Peace...

:)
Thanks, Foster, for the comment on Ordinary Men. Awesome! (And also, I really dig your status update on FB -- am I allowed to say that here? Happy to hear you're doing well!)
And I'm still thinking about A Life Twice Told. That one really sticks with me, Foster. I just love it. Have you sent it off somewhere? You should get it OUT there!!
And I'm still thinking about A Life Twice Told. That one really sticks with me, Foster. I just love it. Have you sent it off somewhere? You should get it OUT there!!
Foster -- thanks so much for your comment and fave on Time to Rest. And I'm so glad I came to Burger and Fries -- is it part of a larger work? I think it could be... there is a lot there, but you know that more than anyone else, I reckon.
Thanks for the comment on A Night of Not Knowing. Looking forward to coming back here soon, off to work now. Did you get a job yet? I know what it's like not working for a long long time... and how hard it is to transition back to it... Good to meet you here. Will be back to read very soon.
I enjoyed reading the little bio you sent me with 'A Life Twice Told' and your 'About' section on here. You seem like a very interesting person who has lived in a lot of interesting places, I hope to do the same someday.
Thank you, Foster, for reading "Classmates," the fav, and your kind words. So glad to hear you thought the mood ran through all three: I felt it, but couldn't see it for myself on the page. Thanks!
You're on the money with the Hemingway parallel in "Snowed In." My early idol. This story was written a few years back. I've changed, I'm not sure whether for the better or worse.
Foster, the story you wrote is highly original. Let's face it-- once the first potter made the first pot, there were no more "so-called" original pots. But realistically, every time one puts pen to paper, another totally new and original world is created. The only similarity between your story and Cheever's was the meeting of father and son. Your story brought his to my mind. Yours is yours, his is his. They are both great stories. But yours is uniquely yours.
Susan
You are most welcome Foster. Love your stuff.
(p.s. For some time now, I have been mis-reading your name as Foster and thinking it's a pretty cool name. a late onset of selective dyslexia).
Hey, Foster. Very cool, your comments on Little Walter, and, yes, I think we can all see ourselves in there somewhere. I had hoped so, anyway. Hurt is a lonely place and sometimes company can help. The character in this story is still hurting and may still have more to tell. I'm not sure. But thanks so much for taking time to give my work such a careful read.
Your latest-- "Eight States Away" could be a Twilight Zone episode, if there was still a twilight zone (is there one out there??) Story has a film noir feel, yet the writing feels fresh
Foster, Thanks so much for your comments on "Estranged." I try to write stories that have that good kind of ambiguity, something else going on underneath the surface. I can't take credit for it; it just happens. Sometimes I get lucky!
Foster...thanks for your post, great to meet you here and read your work...and ditto for sure on inspiration slot #2 above: Man reminisces on a distant memory. The older we get the more of 'em just keep crowding about wanting some voice
well, it just hits close to home, and not so much situationally, just in a broader sense of how life moments become like phantoms that one time were warm and vibrant. Oh, i think it is okay to cry from time to time reading stories - what it really means, Foster, is that your writing is powerfully effective (and that i am a tad sensitive to the subject)
Foster, A Life Twice Told is one of those stories that stays with me. I think you went into a part of the unconscious mind where fear of death, that "what if" gets carried. And you did it masterfully for this story
thanks for your kind comment, foster. italy...if the memories still hang around, join the second tongue group for (virtual and actual) expatriates. enjoyed your story 'a very quiet evening' immensely. respect for knowing your themes - that bodes well.

Hey, Foster. Thanks for the comment on and fav of "Parables for Rodin." Glad you enjoyed the poem.
Foster, so glad your going to write something for Oil group. It can be from any pov, and satire/dark humor is always welcome
Thanks so much, Foster, for your read on Between. Glad it struck a chord!
Foster, I'm so glad you liked "Shrimp." Hope you will considering joining the Oil group and perhaps posting one of your amazing stories
Cheers!
Thanks for the comment on A Night of Not Knowing. Looking forward to coming back here soon, off to work now. Did you get a job yet? I know what it's like not working for a long long time... and how hard it is to transition back to it... Good to meet you here. Will be back to read very soon.
Thanks for the comment on "Extracurricular," Foster. I'm happy you liked it.
Foster, our Esp must've crossed because you passed through my mind yesterday. Thank you so much for Summer in the City! Hope you are doing well
Foster, Thanks so much for your note. (And for reading.) Hope you're doing well.
Thanks for your comment on my Amsterdam story. Yes, so many stories, so little time!
I enjoyed reading the little bio you sent me with 'A Life Twice Told' and your 'About' section on here. You seem like a very interesting person who has lived in a lot of interesting places, I hope to do the same someday.
Thanks Foster :-)
Foster, I appreciate your comments about "Black Orchids" and my writing. Thank you very, very much.
Foster - thanks for the kind words about my story "Proposal". I agree, it was out of nowhere. It was from a prompt (as usual). Much appreciated!
Thank you, Foster, for reading "Classmates," the fav, and your kind words. So glad to hear you thought the mood ran through all three: I felt it, but couldn't see it for myself on the page. Thanks!
Hey thanks for your comment on Pleiku Jacket.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments on "Real Estate," Foster! Much appreciated.
You're on the money with the Hemingway parallel in "Snowed In." My early idol. This story was written a few years back. I've changed, I'm not sure whether for the better or worse.
I'm glad you liked my strange white goat piece!
Foster, Thanks for your kind note on Common Trade. I really appreciate it.
thank you Foster for the words on Sweet & Sour, much appreciated
Foster, thanks for your read and great words on my St. Barts story.
People still read Turgenev? Wow.
Foster, thank you so much for your kind comment about "Villa Monterey" - means a lot.
Foster, thank for reading Liquid Compass. Glad you enjoyed it.
Foster, you are flying with Eight States Away-- Congrats, it's a hell of a good story
Thanks Foster, for your kind comments.
Thanks for the comments, Foster. "Eight States Away" is another awesome, awesome story, man.
You are more than welcome, Foster :) I can't wait to read more of your work!
Foster, thanks for reading Girl -- and for your kind note. I'm so happy it worked for you.
ps-- love Turgenev, too, esp Fathers & Sons
Foster your words on my poem Wash made my morning! Thanks so much. I used to live in Philly
Again, thanks for the kind words, Foster. Glad you liked "The Birds."
Foster...thanks for your post, great to meet you here and read your work...and ditto for sure on inspiration slot #2 above: Man reminisces on a distant memory. The older we get the more of 'em just keep crowding about wanting some voice
That voice just got to me -- it's real and true and demonstrates such command; I look forward to reading more of your work.
I'm a Philly girl, or former, but return now and again for the pretzels and a whole lotta accent.
Hey Foster, thanks for your wall post. My pleasure on the small assistance. It's a great story, bud.
Thanks for the great review of "Quitting." Kind words. I really appreciate it.
Foster, Cactus sticks. You made a landscape that is like a film, and stays in the mind
well, it just hits close to home, and not so much situationally, just in a broader sense of how life moments become like phantoms that one time were warm and vibrant. Oh, i think it is okay to cry from time to time reading stories - what it really means, Foster, is that your writing is powerfully effective (and that i am a tad sensitive to the subject)
Hey Foster I like your writing and thanx for commenting on mine.
Foster, A Life Twice Told is one of those stories that stays with me. I think you went into a part of the unconscious mind where fear of death, that "what if" gets carried. And you did it masterfully for this story
Vittorini, grande.
thanks for your kind comment, foster. italy...if the memories still hang around, join the second tongue group for (virtual and actual) expatriates. enjoyed your story 'a very quiet evening' immensely. respect for knowing your themes - that bodes well.
yo--
time in italia, always a good thing--
ciao,

It's my pleasure, Foster - A Very Quiet Evening is a great story :)!
Most welcome, Foster.
And thank you in kind, Foster, for the comments on "The Get-Up." I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks, Foster, for reading and commenting on my story “Bobby Fischer in Budapest”!
Foster,
Thanks for your thumbs up for my bridge jumper story.
wow, i didn't even know i had a wall, but i'm very happy to have you deface it.
hi Foster. I'm honored to be the first to graffiti your wall. I'm so glad to see you here.
