Hi Marcy - Thanks so much for reading & commenting on "Telling" - you know I liked the hard pause of the period instead of hypen but rereading it, I see what you mean. Also, and this always happens, I always notice little mistakes in my writing - a missing apostrophe in this case. I'm a lazy proofreader :)
peter is here in Wisconsin at the moment. i’m going to visit him soon. i’ll say hi for you… but yes he’s still living down in Mexico teaching creative writing. are you coming to Wisconsin anytime soon for a reading? i’d love to meet you and chat a bit on writing, if you’d like…?
Marcy! I loved your story Halloween when it first appeared in KNOCK. My very first story Song of the Needle was in that issue (but i have better stories coming out in Narrative and Tampa Review--i think anyway). I flew out to see Johnathan Evison and met Ben Loory. Also, i think you went to school with a good friend of mine, Peter Theis...
Marcy! So great to read that excerpt of Bad Marie just now. I'm supposed to be translating and editing, but that was so very worth tearing myself away from work... thanks for posting it, and I'll look for the NZ edition!! (or find it online - I'm resourceful that way!)
Hi Marcy, just read your insightful interview on Nervous Breakdown (I'm new there, just posted my first non-fiction A & E piece yesterday). Glad we share two of my favorite literary sites on the web! I'm excited to read your work. Have a great week!
Marcy, thanks so much for your note. I loved reading Little Meadow Simms again! It was one of my favorite pieces we published in PIF. It's exciting to see all the cool stuff you've done - congratulations! This is a great site...I'm getting my act together to update my profile and post something. And I can't wait to read your novel.
Marcy, due to Gary's poem about Facebook, I went on a little mission to read your work today and found sample chapters of Twins and read the first one about getting the tattoos. I'm wild about your writing! Thanks.
Adults at Home was the single most exciting, nervy. cool, funny, poetic, sexy, sad and important-to-me story I've read in a decade. Admiration, I feel. Envy. But gratitude mostly.
Thanks for Herzog warning, Marcy! It's on my Netflix cue so I should get it soon... NBC news reporter Peter Alexander did a story on my ship, the CCGS Amundsen, for the Today show last Friday. OK.... That's enough product placement for today!
Thanks for the note. Funny thing--the Glimmertrain editor said this:
"Although it did not win this time, it did make it a long way through the judging process and was in the top 5% of over a thousand entries, earning you Honorable Mention, which you should note on your cover letter as you send this story back out into the world."
Would you really note such a thing in cover letter when sending a story out? Hum...
I'll look for your novel! As for Bernheimer, I recommend starting with The Complete Tales of Ketzia Gold. It's amazing. Ketzia is unforgettable. The novel's so small, but I've read 300-page novels in less time; it's just so jam-packed with language-y goodness.
by the people who live in Antarctica, do you mean people of science? they are a strange breed, half-nerds and half- last frontier/hotshot adventurers... i find them even more interesting than penguins!
Thanks for your first writing on my brand new wall, Marcy. This virtual community of writers feels so real-- it's great! Haven't seen Herzog movie, wants to since I'm putting together a film class about the idea of North-- any other suggestions?
Whoa! Lots of Dermanskys here (Or is Dermanskies the plural of Dermansky????) Are they all your peeps? You know I loved Twins...you must have one mighty talented family.

Thank you for your kind words about "Clean." I appreciate them very much...
Thanks for reading Headlines!
It was great to meet you, Marcy!

Thanks for the welcome, Marcy! I am still figuring this site out, but having fun!
I'm happy you gave "The Line" a star, Marcy.

People seem to want to call you brainy but I think we should just stick with amazing.
Thank you for your comment (and favoriting) on The Tracing Game. It's a good boost to the confidence.
You mean Roy Kesey?
Yeah, I was seriously wondering about the note from Jurgen. lol. Hope you had a good day birthday. I'm eating red velvet cake...still.
Happy birthday, yesturday.
Thanks for letting me borrow your husband.
I'll get him back in one piece.
I hope you have a great birthday, Marcy! Did you know that Michael J. Fox and Johnny Depp also share our birthday? I know, I know, pretty exciting.
In response to comment #2: The woman is smarter than my review.
Hey there, thanks for the wall note, very nice of you to let me know you like my stories. Very encouraging! Kudos on all of your success!
late to the party but had to comment on "Perfect". One of the best stories I've read. The ending is just so so wonderful.
Adults at Home was the single most exciting, nervy. cool, funny, poetic, sexy, sad and important-to-me story I've read in a decade. Admiration, I feel. Envy. But gratitude mostly.
Ha ha ha. Just read Jurgen's April 28 post. Real world and virtual worlds collide.
But seriously, I loved Twins so much, am really excited about reading the new book.
congrats on the sale of your novel!!

Your stories are extremely cool. Thanks for all the kind words.
Hi Marcy.
I really like your rhythm—direct without being confrontational, precise without being pedantic, sentiment without sentimentality.
See, Marcy? I'm participating. I'm putting up new excerpts every week. I'll either bore everyone to death or build a fan base, right?
Hi, Marcy
Thanks for the note. Funny thing--the Glimmertrain editor said this:

Peace,

I'm being a good little girl and posting new stuff. Soon I'll post stuff you actually haven't read before.
Joy Williams!

. . .hey marcy, thanks for the reach-out, i just started this account yesterday! . . . have you got another novel in the works, I hope?
Hey Marcy--snowman lit might just be the next big thing. You never know. Thanks for the reading tip.

Thanks so much, Marcy. It was a pretty huge surprise.
The list will grow.
Marcy wins for most contacts. So popular!
My copy of Twins arrived today!
Whoa! Lots of Dermanskys here (Or is Dermanskies the plural of Dermansky????) Are they all your peeps? You know I loved Twins...you must have one mighty talented family.
So Jim Carrey has already decided to say yes to life. He beats me in everything.
gee, we coulda met in NYC at the Oyster Bay? Maybe we can try again. Oysters and me are always waiting for company.
Thanks for the tip about Alison Baker! I just picked up her stories from the library.
Did it! Posted! Be the first to read these never before seen pages.
Yo, Marcy. I know what I want to post, but I am not smart enough to post it.
Hi Marcy! So great to see you on Fictionaut!
