::: Special Projects & Endeavors :::

The WEB FICTION DIRECTORY came about after I realized that there were so many other digital authors sharing their amazing stories online. I wanted to help other avid readers find them too. I've had a lot of help from other writers and gifted individuals, so I share resources and information in my WRITING LINKS directory that I hope will be useful to writers and other creative types.

Why do you write?

My first genre of choice is Space Opera. I can't recall a time in my life when I wasn't wondering about the universe. I remember being ten or so years old and thinking that I'd go mad because I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of an entire universe originating from... nothing. Decades later, I'm still mystified by the the Big Bang Theory but I've since discovered that imagining is far more entertaining than knowing.

I've always had a very active imagination. It's amazing how sometimes, just the tiniest thing can spark an idea for a story; the sunrise when I leave work in the mornings, red berries on fat shrubbery... sometimes, at night I look at the sky and get carried away by the glimmer of a certain star. Every moment of my existence seems to become distilled into fodder for fiction.

Isn't it the same for everyone who writes?

I write for the sake of my own sanity and because I simply can't imagine living and not writing.

Any favorite authors? Books?

The list is ever growing an constantly changing. Always at the top of my list are Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, and Ann McCaffery.

I love Science Fiction, Fantasy, Supernatural stories - the kind that just take me on a wild ride, so to speak. I love evocative and daring flights of fantasy that stir me up both emotionally and imaginatively.

Tonya, thanks for commenting on Every Shade of Gray… I’m glad it worked for you. It is kind of a strange story. (I liked your word better.)

Thanks, Tonya, for commenting on “Found Poem.” It’s a bit of a curiosity but I’m glad it works for you.

Thanks for the comment on Flashback. Love that pic on your call for submissions page.
I have a completed novellette about a nurse in a near future word. She’s absolutely a gun girl; Bushmaster
.223/Kimber.45. I don’t know if a chapter would stand alone but I’d love to have people meet her. I’ll take a look and we’ll see.

Tonya - thank you for your kind note. I just read your bio here, and it’s amazing to see what you are doing, and who you are.. and to have you here at Fictionaut. I really think though I don’t often write speculative fiction, that maybe I do without even knowing it. Maybe I see life, the real world, as a foreign planet… ha. Well, anyway, welcome and I am so glad that Slices resonated.
