Hi MaryAnne! Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my "post office frustration" piece! I really value and appreciate it. Your comment conveys wisdom that I shall endeavor to keep in mind!
Hello MaryAnne! Thanks for reading and kind words on The Minister's Wife Writes a Sermon. If I could, I would, and it would not be pretty! Super interview with Alice! Peace...
Ayeee! Thanks for your comment on "The Story of F" with the horrifying report of someone telling you "It's a profane world and you have to learn to speak the language." To me that's on the order of Rick Sartorum opposing abortion even in the case of rape, and suggesting instead to "make the best out of a bad situation."
Thank you so much for reading "Needy Kids". I'm not sure there's actually much camping at Buckeye Lake, but I went out there once and for some reason the name came up in that story. It was such a cool little getaway spot in Ohio. :)
dear maryanne, my new project for 2012 is another novel. if i do anything else, whip me into shape please. i'm always thinking about new projects on the side, i'm a master procrastinator. blessings to you and yours!
In case my message about your interview didn't get through--I said that I liked especially the exchange about your past. It is a wise artist who knows when an unhappy past may not make for good reading. I added that I suspected when you were ready to write it, I'm sure the subject will be ready for the page.
thank you for your comment...if it were easy to do "the next morally right thing" then it would probably be done much more often than not. but where the prize is golden, the path is stony perhaps...the great thing about telling stories is (for me) that you can create a tale without understanding everything fully, and after the writing your readers may understand more than you ever did. the conscious mind is awfully limited...

I should have put this on your wall, not in a comment on "Pieta;" well, here it is: MaryAnne, this morning on my morning run I thought how this is really not poetry, not fiction, but journalism of the soul. Now your comment about the soul. Lovely. Thanks.
Thanks of thanks so much, MaryAnne. Still mining the vein of this novel, albeit slowly. As always nice to receive your commentary--and great to connect with you over FB.
Hi Mar: For Captain Paul began as a poem. That gave me distance enough. It sat as a poem for over ten years. I only converted it to truth two years ago. Sometimes, life's too hard to face dead-on, until it's not. Thanks.
Thanks, MaryAnne, for checking out my story, "Sideburns." I'm new to Fictionaut, trying to figure it out a bit. Really fun getting back comments! I appreciate it.
Thanks, MaryAnne, for your comments about "Hot Dish," but I have a fondness for wakes; I met my wife at one. And before the widow's marriage, I "knew" her a few times, too!
Yes, I spent some time in the basement, too, but at my lake cabin, I had neither a basement nor a storm cellar. Made it interesting at times. Thanks for the read and the *, MaryAnne!
Naw. Bob's too old and slow to be out on his own. Thank you reading and commenting on "The Heron." It's kind of somber and low key for me, in my opinion. Glad you liked it.
Dear Burke,
thank you for declining my breasts and my breast work. I am not at all surprised that my being is not the right being for your being. As my grandmother always said "for every pot there is a lid." Of course she never found hers. Wormly, Meg
Thank you for the high praise! I'm glad you read and enjoyed the issue - Bill Lantry's had work in there before, which makes me feel even prouder of the HM, to know that they attract that kind of talent and chose something of mine, too. Hope to see something of yours in the next issue!
Thanks for faving "The Empty Bed," MaryAnne. "Does the eagle bring the kids back?" Well, let's pretend that the eagle raises the kids and they grow up happy, healthy, and successful. Plus, they learn how to fly!
Okay... you're on. I'm going to work on 250 words, too. I just figured out how to add pictures into the Comment section. I feel it gives it a little more umph for my Longfellow Bridge Diaries project.
MaryAnne, the irony of it is that "Pete" later died of alcoholism. Of course, I had a narrow escape, too--and I signed the pledge! Thanks for the comment and the fave!
Thanks, MaryAnne. I so appreciate your honesty. I'm slowly reeling myself back to that initial voice, which is really the style I want and feel I need to stick with!
MaryAnne: Thanks for the spinning head reference on "Manhattan, Sunday Morning." I needed a laugh this morning before giving out and then grading 55 exams...
Mary Anne, I know what you mean. That's why I like the Monkey Island. They aren't in cages; they get to roam around a little.
Thanks for the read and the fav!
Hi MaryAnne, As usual you are so generous and spur me on. Thanks so much. I appreciate the note on that typo. I originally wrote it in second person and didn't catch the "her" vs. "my". Many thanks again to you--and also for your marvelous commentary on "Fish". Best, I.
maryann-you're very welcome. during teaching term i'm virtually unavailable. will be off for some traveling but otherwise i am more than happy to re-engage for the next 2 months...until it all begins again...cheers from berlin!
Hi MaryAnne,
Thanks once again for your kind words about "Flatlander's Suite." I always appreciate your comments and feedback. It's interesting, the pressures that exist in those public places in Tiny Town, USA, especially as an outsider or one who's not considered part of the inner circle. I'm realizing as I get set to move again that I may never achieve that inner circle status. So it goes. Anyways, thanks again!
Hi MaryAnne--Thank you for your beautiful comments on "Fish". It's so nice to have regular followers on this piece. Your feedback is much appreciated. Kindly, I.
MaryAnne, thanks for the fave on "Carla Bruni Smile". I so appreciate your dedication to this story. It made my day when you referred to Vincent as a "snotty bastard". Yes, he is! Loved that.
As I understand it Fictionaut is self-regulating--I don't do anything to make my posts appear other than write them. Whatever I put up disappears as other people post stuff, so I'm not blocking anybody, and anyone can advance the queue simply by posting their own content. I post here less often here than I do on other sites--Gather, OpenSalon--because those sites don't have queues like Fictionaut. No offense intended to anyone.
I really appreciate your comment on Mapping the Territory, and I agree that women crime writers can be hard on the female body as well. I think it's a cultural issue as much as one of gender.
Thank you for being so kind and commenting/fave-ing 'Manolos...' - your support is appreciated more than you know. And I totally agree - he asked for it!
MaryAnne: Ekphrasis is an interesting form in which to write. It keeps one inside boundaries, but also frees a writer to imagine all the minutiae within those boundaries. Thank you for your response to "Soir Bleu." I appreciate you.
Thanks for commenting on 'Sally' - I think there's a purity to pet bereavement that can make it harder to take. It's one of those things where if you haven't experienced it, it can be hard to fathom what other people are on about. She was a great wee dog who had a happy life and I'm lucky to have met her. Quite a mournful piece but I remember her for her life rather than her death now.
Hi MaryAnne: I appreciate your response to "Happy Hour." Sometimes it's hard to distance oneself as a writer from a poem or story based on fact, as this one is, so one can't know if the piece works until it gets some feedback. I'm glad to know it worked for you. Best.
MaryAnne, thanks for reading and commenting on Hidden Reminders. I really appreciate the time you took for both. Yes, it's bleak, but nice to know it's not too bleak :) fos.
Thank you so much for reading and fave-ing 'The Ghost Of A Smile' - it means a lot to me, as always. And never worry about holding back what you say to me - I appreciate your comments, thoughts and candour. I think the language differences might just make it a little more surreal. I forgot how many different meanings there are for our shared words, I must just 'tune in' when I read American fiction. Wonder how Elizabeth George of the Inspector Lynley mysteries does it? All the best, Gill
Hey MAK, thanks so much for your generous words and fave on APRIL. Very much appreciated, and it helps as I start thinking through this novel what people resonate with.
And so happy I was a tipping point for you ;^) Peace...
MaryAnne, posted this on the poem but want to add it here: Thanks, MaryAnne. I don't pay too much attention to that stuff. If I like something, I fave it, and I like a lot of stuff I read here. Don't doubt the next time I fave a piece of yours. It isn't a reward for liking mine. It's a reward for writing well.
Thanks so much for the kind comment on 'The Gaps Within' - yeah, weird in a slightly fluffy way, rather than a chainsaw-under-the-pillow way - I hope!
Thanks for your time and support with everything,
All the best,
Gill
Ah, thanks for the good word and fave on A Simple Kite in Cleveland. It's funny how destitute I can feel after publishing a story. Like the string slipping out of my hands. Glad you caught it. :?)
MaryAnne, You are a joy to behold and am so loving your work!!! Keep bringing it on!!! Thanks so much for your comments on "Couple Busting." You rock!!!
Thanks Maryanne! Glad you liked it. I'll have it up tomorrow, as soon as Fictionaut lets me. or you can read it at www.pluckyoutoo.com (my personal blog)
MaryAnne, yes, I believe I have an appliance compulsion hangup. Ha ha! You are so funny to pick up on this and thanks so much for what you wrote about Rolex Club!
Thanks so much for the comment about resentment on my wall. I agree with you about the what ifs and the less than. They create a lot of resentment. I try to pluck out the what ifs and the less thans from my backpack, sometimes they really block sight.
The view with less what ifs can sometimes be very surprising. Then I see the what ifs and the less thans of the people I resented.
Thank you so much for the comment to A June Defection. It is indeed a little dark. The landscape in that places inspires dark stories, it's a deep cleft called Ice Valley.
Thanks for reading "Mothering." I posted it right before reading your piece and thought "Wow" we must have just crossed paths on some sort of astral plane :)
Mary Anne the new fridge is a dream! The old fridge was a nightmare! Thanks for asking, and look out for an essay about the fridge! and writing, posting july 21 on flash fiction chronicles. Cheers!
thank you much Maryanne you are a kind, kind reader! Off to read yours pronto (by tomorrow for sure!) I have been too busy and sorry for late responses! Again, thank you!
So nice to meet you here, MaryAnne. Thanks so much for reading my latest story here. And you're married to JLD? Well this is excellent. Can't wait to read you!
MaryAnne, thanks for the fave and the comment on "The secret meaning of dreams." Unfortunately, the spectre of a chatty Faulkner may inhabit my nightmares for weeks to come. Weeks, I say!
Hi MaryAnne
Thanks for reading and appreciating Twinge. You called it. I am a strange strange child of the moon. Really not sure what I am doing in Texas, how I arrived here. Although I think I would be strange even in San Francisco.
Again, thanks so much for your enthusiastic response to The Uninvited Guest and also the interview. Think good thoughts for my novel getting published, and you may see more than you want of these characters!
MaryAnne, I'm really glad you like my story "Reverie." It just seemed like there was lots of references to Marc Chagall on the site. I figured I'd get my two cents in.
Thanks so much for the fav on "The Mariner's Daughter", MaryAnne. I've been away from Fictionaut for a while--so it's good to have this positive feedback. I look forward to reading your work.

Hi MaryAnne! Thanks for your kind words about "Oaxaca Dreamland" and for making it a favorite. I'm going to try to follow your advice and fill out the characters a bit before resubmitting. Hopefully I'll be able to provide more of a story to satiate the "all consuming reading addiction." Thanks again!
MaryAnn, thanks so much for what you wrote to me about my poem In Unison. And forgive this tardy response. Have been buried under getting out 2 magazines and other stuff. I am so touched by your response to the poem.
MaryAnne, my descriptive powers are still intact, but I think my super hearing has gone kaput. Therefore, I was overjoyed when you commented on "The complete, unabridged contents of an abandoned diary found in Memphis."
MaryAnne, I am thrilled to get your comment and fav on Three Thirds. I look forward to reading your writing on here. Great to connect with you. I love your "Why do you write?" answer.
MaryAnne, you make me laugh. Love your comment on my latest. I've actually never read The Secret Garden but The Little Princess was a childhood favorite. Thanks for reading!
MaryAnne, Thank you so much for reading and commenting on "Sinister Age of the Draft." I'm sorry that you went to the same school, but happy that I have an ally!!!! Cheers!
I'm so glad you're having fun here, MaryAnne! I like it too, though I've been busy and away mostly lately. Love reading new (to me) writers. You're really good!
MaryAnne, welcome to Fictionaut and thanks for your lovely comments and insights to my short fiction, "The Outlaw." A writer cannot ask for a more generous reading than this! Welcome to the Fictionaut community, and I hope you benefit as much as I have.
Thank you for Cassie Fly. I recognize your profile and appreciate the encoragement of someone so erudite. If you haven't already consumed it as one of your six books per day you would likely love Lord of Misrule. (this is an unpaid announcement)
Maryanne, thank you for the fine, fortunate, fabulous flurry of faves on "The Rising," "Sand," "The Color of Mangoes," and the "Storefront Poet." It was a nice surprise.

Ayeee! Thanks for your comment on "The Story of F" with the horrifying report of someone telling you "It's a profane world and you have to learn to speak the language." thank you for loving my piece yesterday, you are so kind MAK.
thank you for your comment...if it were easy to do "the next morally right thing" then it would probably be done much more often than not. but where the prize is golden, the path is stony perhaps...the great thing about telling stories is (for me) that you can create a tale without understanding everything fully, and after the writing your readers may understand more than you ever did. the conscious mind is awfully limited...

your thoughtfulness and effort are so much appreciated. You are a treasure. Thanks.
MaryAnne: Thank you for coming by to read "The Rest Home." You're a dedicated and kind reader, and I appreciate you.
MaryAnne, thanks for the read and the star for my story about the bike with no wheels. Like the protagonist's attitude. Thanks for the star, too.
Hi MaryAnne--Thank you for your beautiful comments on "Fish". It's so nice to have regular followers on this piece. Your feedback is much appreciated. Kindly, I.
Thanks for faving the Euclid poem, MaryAnn. I'm getting addicted to hearing from you!
Hi, MaryAnne. Thanks for reading 'I wouldn't Wanna Be Me.' I greatly appreciate your comment and fave.
Hi MaryAnne, I wanted to thank you for your comment on Cactus, it really made me smile. fos.
Hi MaryAnne, thanks for taking time for Ten Reasons, and for the fav. Glad you enjoyed!
Hi, MaryAnne. Thanks for reading 'Mercury Unbound-7.' I greatly appreciate your comments and suggestions.
Hi MaryAnne! I'm so glad you liked my story, "The Savoy"! Thank you so very much for taking the time to read it and comment!
MaryAnne: Thank you for your kind response to "The Human Condition." It is a favorite of mine, and I'm glad it also resonates with others.
Thanks for reading and commenting on "Nebbiolo", MaryAnne.
Relax, MaryAnne. Mimi and Nancy are in their fifties. You know--your mother's age.
MaryAnne, you are always kind to me. Thanks for weighing in on the "tots" controversy. Still haven't changed it you'll notice.
Thank you for reading and commenting!
Thanks for faving "Four Noble Lies," MaryAnn. Love having you as a reader.
Thanks, MaryAnne, for reading "Penny Candy", your kind comments and the star. You've been very supportive of my writing. It's appreciated!
MaryAnne, thanks for the fave on "Carla Bruni Smile". I so appreciate your dedication to this story. It made my day when you referred to Vincent as a "snotty bastard". Yes, he is! Loved that.
Thanks for all your generous words and kind readings of my work. I can only say James Lloyd Davis is a lucky guy.
MaryAnne--
As I understand it Fictionaut is self-regulating--I don't do anything to make my posts appear other than write them.

Hi MaryAnne, thank you so much for reading and liking The Escapists. Cheers, Marda :)
I really appreciate your comment on Mapping the Territory, and I agree that women crime writers can be hard on the female body as well. I think it's a cultural issue as much as one of gender.
What a dishy gal, love the pic!
Thank you for being so kind and commenting/fave-ing 'Manolos...' - your support is appreciated more than you know. And I totally agree - he asked for it!
Hi MaryAnne.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment on 'that ringing'
Hi, MaryAnne. Thanks for reading 'Mercury Unbound-6.' I very much appreciate your comment and fav.
Thanks for your wonderful comment about "Old Age," MaryAnne. You are the best!
Hey, MaryAnne! Thank you for commenting on "Nothing Between Us." Hope you're doing well. :)
MaryAnne: Ekphrasis is an interesting form in which to write. It keeps one inside boundaries, but also frees a writer to imagine all the minutiae within those boundaries. Thank you for your response to "Soir Bleu." I appreciate you.
thank you for your continuing support. i don't think that i would be writing anything if you hadn't contacted me last month
"The Tree is Farther to the Man."
Just another of my literary jokes. Wordsworth: "the child is father of the man."
Also title of Blood, Sweat, and tears album:

Thanks for the comment and the fave, MaryAnne!

Hi, MaryAnn. Thanks for reading 'Mercury Unbound-5.' I appreciate your comment and fav.
MaryAnne, thanks for reading and commenting on "Shoot." Much appreciated!
Hi MaryAnne: I appreciate your response to "Happy Hour." Sometimes it's hard to distance oneself as a writer from a poem or story based on fact, as this one is, so one can't know if the piece works until it gets some feedback. I'm glad to know it worked for you. Best.
Sweet of you to say so, MaryAnne. Thanks!

Hello, MaryAnne! Thanks for the comment on the hobo/hamburger piece!
As for the your "I wish" comment to the hobo being rehabilitated...it IS a piece of fiction, so dreams do come true :)
Thanks for reading.
MaryAnne, thank you so much for your comment on "Phlegmatic."
Thanks so much for the kind comment on 'The Gaps Within' - yeah, weird in a slightly fluffy way, rather than a chainsaw-under-the-pillow way - I hope!

All the best,
Gill

MaryAnne,
Thank you for the read, comment, and fave of "Going Somewhere Else"! I appreciate it :)
Love,
B.
Thank you so much for the comment to A June Defection. It is indeed a little dark. The landscape in that places inspires dark stories, it's a deep cleft called Ice Valley.

Again, thanks so much for your enthusiastic response to The Uninvited Guest and also the interview. Think good thoughts for my novel getting published, and you may see more than you want of these characters!
