Heather Fowler is the author of story collections SUSPENDED HEART (Aqueous Books, 2010), PEOPLE WITH HOLES (Pink Narcissus Press, forthcoming 2012), and THIS TIME, WHILE WE'RE AWAKE (Aqueous Books, forthcoming 2013). She received her M.A. in English and Creative Writing from Hollins University in May of 1997 and has recently published in NIGHT TRAIN, FEMINIST STUDIES, STORYGLOSSIA, THE SUMMERSET REVIEW, NECESSARY FICTION, and PANK, among others. She is Poetry Editor at Corium Magazine and a Fiction Editor for the international refereed journal, Journal of Post-Colonial Cultures & Societies(USA).

Why do you write?

I write like my hand is on fire, like my life may end at any moment, like there is nothing better I might be doing--because I love it just that much.

What fuels my creativity is reading the creative work of others that spreads my awe and delight at their inventions like wildfire across my brain.

Any favorite authors? Books?

Calvino, Borges, Moody, Woolf, St. Vincent Millay, Tennyson, Moore, Munro, Boyle, Shephard, Williams (T), James, Orwell, etc.

No prob! I actually felt bad writing anything remotely 'negative' because everyone else's comments were so happy...he he. I really love the feel of that story. I just thought after awhile it seemed to be going back to the same kind of thing. That's all.
