hej, kathy, i'm still chuffed that you asked me to contribute. enjoying the new dishes (almost) daily. the gaudry piece is awesome...and there seems to be a rain theme running through...thanks for everything and good luck with the rest of your residence.
Thank you so much for reading and fav'ing "Italy, 1990". It is so appreciated. I really, really enjoyed "Baby, Baby..." The character's humanity is almost tangible--it's perfect!
Hi Kathy,
Thanks so much for reading and commenting on Chicken on a Wire..and yes..I agree...there's a whole word out there waiting to be explored populated by rodeo bulls with outlandish names!
Michael
Hi Kathy, thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my little ones. Thrilled you see all of that in my work. I hope you are selling loads and loads of WILD LIFE!
You know, Kathy, I never think of myself writing manifestos but I guess maybe I do. I do love reading manifestos and started collecting them with the idea of making an anthology of them many years ago. Anyway, thank you for faving "Satan and the Moon."
Kathy - thank you SO much for your comments on my story, "Confession." I haven't been on here for so long and just saw your post now. Miss you on facebook and am hoping to become more active here (and in my writing life in general again) - you have no idea how much your thoughtful words mean to me as this was one of my last published stories several years ago before the gap in my creative activity that I am now determined to bridge. Hope all is well with you . . . thanks again & *hugs*
Kathy, it always brings a smile to my face when I see your picture on my comments page. That's for great "review" and for the fave. And where the heck have you been!
Hi Kathy. Thanks so much for commenting on "Movie Night." I'm really glad you did because it reminded me that I needed to order "Wild Life" (which I just did!).
Thanks so much. I'm feeling pretty good about all my/our friends who seem to have made it through Irene all right. Of course, two more hurricanes are forming off Africa, but they're more likely to hit me,in Florida. Odd to have people flying down here to escape a cyclone.
Thank you very much, Kathy. I thought posting the reading AND the animation might be a bit much but I couldn't decide which would be most interesting, so... both x
Kathy, Thanks so much for your comments and fave on "Things Unseen." I saw your message in my regular (although it didn't show up in my Fictionaut messages). I'd love to meet up the next time you get together in the area. Please do let me know.
Thank you for the comment on 'White'. That one's super-strange, even to me. I'm never quite sure why I often seem to find myself writing about spiders. I'm arachnophobic...
Kathy, thanks for taking time to read and comment on House Rabbit. Was a fun little piece to write, glad you enjoyed.
Thanks too for your comment the other day about valuing my take. I've tons of admiration and respect for your work, so that means a lot.
Kathy, thanks fo being so generous about reading and commenting on my work. I really value your opinion. After listening to JLD rant about the title for approximately twenty minutes this morning, I decided to change it. Glad you like the new one better. . .
Hi Kathy, thanks for the great comment on Table Thoughts - I really appreciate your feedback. I also liked your suggestion about the first line, thanks for that, too! fos.
Kathy,
thanks for your very kind comments about Imitation of Life. I was given a lot of trouble about it because some readers complained that there was no main characer or plot arc. I'd try to explain that the photo was the lead character and would get these blank responses. Anyway, it's a relief to see someone pick up on that.
Kathy, you are always way too nice to me. I PREEN when you comment favorably on one of my stories. Thanks so much for your generous comments about my tale of the senior beauty pageant.
Kath, so kind of you to comment twice on In Unison. I think I used to be a better poet than I am now. I wrote that one in '04. Very happy you like it and that people are taking to it.
Kathy,
I have to say I've received the best comments ever on "Sinister Age of the Draft." All of us recovering Catholics do get some great fodder, as you say!!! NO question about that! Thanks so much for reading and commenting! Much appreciated! Hope the nun nightmares have gone away!
Kathy, thanks so much, one more time. The fact that I love your work makes your generous comments even more important to me. I don't want to get all mushy about this but you and the people like you are why I came here. . .
Kathy: I can't say what your comments on flower boat mean to me. I'm kinda teary right now if that's allowed. Not everyone feels comfortable with people expressing emotion on their wall. Something tells me you'd be alright with it. You are quite the lady, a true one indeed.
I am slowly catching up with all the wonderful stories here and this morning I read "Empty". What a wonderful story! I will add it to my teaching stories. I know those kids. I write about them, too, and their need for a dog. My most recent protagonist of an interconnected series of stories would love a dog, too, but so far he only has a parrot. Thanks for giving me much pleasure.
Thanks, Kathy, for the fave and the comment on "David Foster Wallace meets the sage Lao Tse in a strange place." I'm always thrilled when you comment on my work. You're the best.
Kathy, a good comment from you always makes my day. Thanks! I'm so glad you liked "Big." By the way, I'm using your comments for an in-class writing assignment in my class tomorrow. I want to once again bang on the importance of detail in writing.
Thanks for your comments on Home Invasion (Johnny Dangerously) which I renamed Hello Kitty.
I will not republish with the new title to save you re-reading saying to yourself,” haven’t I already read this damn thing? Like some stupid Tom Clancy paperback in the airport where they changed the cover causing you to get halfway to St. Louis before you realize you’ve already read it.
LS
Kathy, you are ALWAYS right on the money with your comments! Yes, indeed, "abashed" was a fortunate choice of words. I got lucky. Thanks so much for your review of "Still Life."
Hi Kathy,
Thanks for your recent comments on my story, 10,000 Dollar Pyramid. Coming from you, they mean a lot. Also, thanks for the gate-gait catch. I really appreciate it.
Kathy, thanks for the comments on "A heart that is not broken..." and for all of your support in the past. In case I haven't said so before, it means a lot to me when the best writers see something of value in my work.
Kathy we have been bombarded with snow this winter and yesterday another foot and a half on top off all that hasn't melted, and I thought of you and "Snow" and decided to stay indoors and away from the pesky neighbors..
cheers to you!
Kathy, thank you so much for the super comment and fav on What They Say is True. You are always generous with your readings and responses; I so appreciate your feedback. Peace...
Kathy, thank you for your generous comment on my interdenominational story “The Boy who killed Christ.” Much appreciated! Wishing you a serene holiday season, Frank.
Oh Hey! Thank you, Kathy! And I'd say a whole bunch more except it's Glee night and Sue is going to be the Grinch. But seriously, I really appreciate your kind comments and I always trust your input, so thank you!
Kathy, just wanted to let you know, I loved your story over at Guernica.
love, love the humor here...
“Do you want to talk?” she says. “You know. About your loss?”
“Nope.”
“Oh that’s a relief.” She starts singing along to the song on the radio. It’s an old Supremes song. “You know, this is just what I needed,” she says. “Maybe it’s weird, but I’m happy.”
Just read "Disassembly" over at Guernica Mag. Simply amazing. The beginning of that last paragraph had me so full of anticipation and sadness. God, right on target.
thank you for your comment on "le sucre brun". yes, the photo is stunning. it inspired me in the first place though i am also involved in this topic through my novella. it made me feel a little bad because this person is actually very sweet and not at all tough and rough as the story might suggest. but i cleared it with her first, of course.
I appreciate your comments on "April." Always such a up to know something works. Funny I just saw an ad for an Ashley stove on Craig's list. It would have to be practically an antique.
Hi Kathy, thanks so much for taking the time to read Whipping Post. I appreciate your comment on prose style/content and feel grateful to have you as a reader.
Thanks, Kathy, as always, for the read on "Santa." You rock. I actually pulled the story down. Figured I'd try submitting it somewhere. I really appreciate the feedback!
Hi Kathy: I am not, never was, an Elvis fan either. I just wanted to give a great professor, who was an Elvis fan, a gift at the end of a great class and came up with this. I'm happy I did, as it's had legs over the years. Thanks for reading.
Kathy does this mean I'm down on men? ha ha!
Thanks so much for "womens armed forces" which actually had me laughing as i was writing it... doesn't say much for my sanity... ha ha again!
Dear Kathy: I was at GR for a time. If I come back, it will be to befriend and champion writers like yourself and others at FN. For a while, it was a virtual activity that was not helping me get my work done as a writer, so I quit, but may return.
I agree with you about rejection and I so love the baby corner quote. Ha! My husband and I bring that one up a lot. Such wonderful, applicable eighties filmic inspiration. -- Q
A really great Kelly Link quote Kathy, ha! So much fun, as she is - the shopping habits of zombies, etc. Do you know where that came from? I can probably find it via Google. You brightened my day and softened the bummerness of a morning rejection. So: So much appreciated!!! -- Q
Kathy, thank you for your promptings to post! I'm starting to feel like the mad lurker and may need to put something up soon just to justify my time here. Though lately, I'm happiest reading. Hope all's well. Miss you at FB, but understand why you quit that crazy time-suck of a place.
Kathy thank you so much for reading Above the Clouds... which is a longer story than I usually post, and I'm very grateful you put the time in, and that you liked it, in its quirk.
Kathy, thank you, for taking the time to read the revised version of Gin And A Cowboy: Redux, and the fav. I so appreciate your wonderful and supportive comments. Yes, I'm going to take another pass through the piece tomorrow and then out it shall fly!
Kathy, thank you so much for your comments on Gin And A Cowboy! Since its original posting, I shaved off more words, something like 2800 all told. Being told I have mad editing skills, crazy how much that comment made my day! It's been great, or perhaps avoidance at working on my current long piece, to hone and cut, and truly get to the bones of this story!
Thanks for your note about Chanticleer. I wish I knew how to revise. Never learned that skill. So I just say, 'well, that's the best I can do for today, and move to the next... ;)
Kathy, I'm on Cloud 9. Thank you so much for your response to "Night & Day." Yes, indeed, you are that Kathy. I said you were a good teacher; I meant it!
Kathy, I'd like to bottle your responses to my work and sprinkle them over page I'm about to write so they'd know what they had to live up to. (That may be utter babble, but with your interpretive skills you'll get to the heart of what I'm trying to say.) Thanks again for reading and responding as you do, to 'under the skin'
Kathy, You are not only a great writer, you are a good teacher, too. Thank you very much for your thoughtful and detailed comment about "Win Some, Lose Some."
thanks for commenting, Kathy. Funny, I had this rejected three different places, because, 'we don't know enough about these characters.' So, I'm keeping it here for the nice intelligent readers of Fictionaut.
Thanks, Kathy, for your generous comment on "Kramer vs. Kramer." I always love hearing what you have to say. And I'm so glad you mentioned the structure and rhythm of the story. I was trying to do something a little different with this one (at least for me).
Kathy, as always, I am thrilled when you read my work. Thanks for the star on Unpacking Sentences. I think I have a few stories of yours to catch up on!
Kathy, it was an incredibly sweet gesture to read a story of mine, having seen I had been reading and commenting this morning. One of those mornings when I wasn't quite ready to work, and just wanted to submerge myself a bit in others. Your comments were wonderful and gratifying! Thank you for the star.
Kathy, thanks for your comments on Rope & Bone. It's always a pleasure to see that someone has read the stories I post. I can see you're a real supporter of other Fictionaut writers.
Hi Kathy, thanks for reading and commenting on the next-to-newest Event Particle. Very much appreciated. The series is starting to acquire an interesting shape...
Thanks for the encouragement for Bobbi Grumann Kathy. You'd probably love the chapter where she sings Proud Mary at open mike in a Daytona bar with her Cajun road racer boyfriend.
Hi, Kathy. Thanks for reading 'Fifty Five Words or Less.' Your comment helped me to appreciate the post enough to not delete it, which I had been contemplating.
Kathy, glad you so liked the opener to "What to Bring to Critique Group." I promise, I've never killed any of my Critique partners, just ask the ones that are still alive, oops...
Frig it Kathy! I didn't have that stupid theme song in my head till you mentioned it... now it's going round and round and round. "We are the Addams family!" Really good, cool, suburbia as the night of the living ghouls story.
And thank you for your lovely words about my comments on people's work. That made me feel very good, and not at all like Morticia!
Kathy, Thanks so much for reading Tomorrowland. You gave me the nudge last night so I took it. It's so nice to be back, here, and I look forward to catching up on your work that I might have missed this summer.
Hi Kathy, it's been a while. Good to see you so active on here again and I am enjoying reading your latest stories. Submit to jmww if you haven't already! (I'm on the editorial staff now).
Thanks, Kathy. Yes, there are plenty of writers out there who are blending essay and fiction. I recently read Bolaño's 'Nazi Literature in the Americas'. He made up a bunch of biographies of fictional literary figures. Odd. Fascinating. Totally engrossing. Again, thanks for your praise of my story! -David
Hey Kathy, thank you so much for reading and commenting on my story, "Spring Ice." The Annie Proulx comparison made me dance naked down the road so...um...my neighbors now all think i'm whacked. : )
Sure thing, Kathy! One of these days very soon I’m going to have a Kathy Fish day and catch up with all of your stories. I’ve just made a note in my planner. :)
Thank you for your kind words about my story "stats." It felt risky to me form-wise and I appreciate the encouragement. I have the lovely "Peculiar Feeling..." temporarily packed away in boxes and look forward to the day my home renovations are finished and I get to open your book like a surprise to myself. Meanwhile, I look forward to reading the goodies that are here on the site. Maybe some of these goodies are in both places, your book and fictionaut - ? Have a lovely fall weekend. -- Q
Kathy, thanks for your close reading and comments on Check Engine, much appreciated. Your work is consistently inspiring- Delivery is still among my favorites, anyone's, ever- and your feedback encouraging and valued. All best.
Kathy, thank you for ... well everything. I can only hope to reciprocate in some way. and thanks for liking "for Jamie". Love your new photo, beautiful and dreamy
Kathy, Thank you for reading and your terrific pithy comments on Redux - Things I Should Have Done #4 - since retitled Heartbreak Waiting To Happen. Comments from you always make my day.
Thanks, Kathy. I'm always delighted when you say nice things about one of my stories. In my opinion, some shrinks do a hell of a good job, but this guy was a real stinker.
Really appreciate your comments on "Syllannibal." Glad it worked for you. Nice to see you at Fictionaut (I remember you from the Z'trope days)! Take care...
Thanks, Kathy, so very much! I am glad Ordinary Boys worked for you, and I thank you for the comment and the fave. I wondered if it was too dark, too much. I tried to make it sparse, just detailed enough, but sometimes you never know...
Hey Kathy! thanks for your kind words about the Bone In a Tin Funnel poems. I just tracked down your comment on my wall (I forgot I had a wall!) Anyway, I'm glad you like the chapbook. I forget all about poems, lately. Maybe now I'll feel inspired to jot off some more! thanks! tiff
Kathy,
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments on In The Lake. I appreciated your comment about leaving it ambiguous, but I felt it important that it be clear it is two sisters, rather than perhaps a sister and a brother in the short piece. I am actually taking it farther, and perhaps as I do, I might end up leaving that first paragraph ambiguous exactly as you suggest. I look forward to reading your writing!
Hi Kathy, thanks for commenting on Upstream. It's really strange, when I go back to read comments and read the piece again I'm finding it quite depressing!
Hi, Kathy, thanks for reading and commenting on Atonement. I appreciate your time and energy, printing and reading a longer work. I've enjoyed reading your writing, also, and I look forward to reading more.
Thank you, Kathy, for your comments about Prologue. It's the prologue to a novel I'm blocking out that has some laughs, I hope. Not sure how that will work-but I feel better about this opening anyway.
Also, my husband, Jared, is featured in Keyhole 9 ("Intimacy" is his story). I recognized the cover on your page here. I loved your stories in that issue!
Hi Kathy, hope you are enjoying the transition from school year into Mom time! Better yet, I wish all best things with your writing. Can't wait to read more of your stunning work.
Kathy, thank you for kind note on Girl. I really appreciate it, especially coming from you. I've had a wonderful time losing myself in your stories (which, in addition to being technical gems and beautifully written contain such humanity) and thank you again for sharing them. More, please.
For months, it's been on my to-do list, to steal some time and have myself a Kathy Fish day. It turns out that's this morning. It is such a joy that you're here, that you've shared so many amazing stories for us to read and tag, stow away and revisit, your work the ultimate gobstopper that never dwindles but delights in never-discovered shades, and I am a giddy school girl on my first day of school.
Kathy, Thanks so much for reading my story. I took a class once where we each brought in our favorite work by a real-deal author and someone read "my mother never wore bright lipstick" and it was all i could think about for many days. Your work is so, so good.
ha, thanks so much, kathy. i really appreciate it. seems like 20 years ago when i wasn't writing/reading much. your encouragement with that piece that i placed in slow trains greatly impacted me. and always breakfast before hurlophobia. :)
Hi, Kathy. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment on "Sectioned." I've been seeing your name around--on what I don't remember--so it's good to see you here. F'naut rocks!
I enjoyed your The Hollow. So much going on. Have you thought of developing it out into a longer form? It seems to sort of brim with itself, like it could easily spill over into a larger piece, if you were ever so inclined.
Kathy, thank you for your comment on my story Standby a while back. I was especially appreciative of your observation re tenderness. It's important to me that that came through.
I'm touched that you again took time to read my work. I'm so glad you enjoyed "Dinner With The Lydia" and thanks for your kind comments. Actually the majority of my work tends toward the dark, but I'm just rolling with what's coming out right now, and will see where I land. Thanks again.
Kathy, how lovely of you to write a note on "Cracking Open." I greatly admire your work and appreciate your time and encouragement. Ha! You were eating dry roasted nuts at the time? Aren't these coincidences intriguing ... Thanks again.
Hi Kathy. Just uploaded a picture and thought I'd join the table for awhile. The picture you uploaded for The Hollow is gorgeous. That story is gorgeous. I'm not sure I spelled "gorgeous" correctly. xoxo
Thanks, Kathy! So glad you liked "Not That Kind of Pain." Thanks for the fave!
Thank you so much for the comment on Almost There, Kathy. It means a lot to me that people connect to this story.

Kathy,
to be appreciated by you is really special. Thanks.
thanks, kathy. i imagine moondog was a "hellcat" like elmer gantry when he was young & then was reversely reformed & turned into a late viking god.
You know, Kathy, I never think of myself writing manifestos but I guess maybe I do. I do love reading manifestos and started collecting them with the idea of making an anthology of them many years ago. Anyway, thank you for faving "Satan and the Moon."

Kathy,
thanks for your very kind comments about Imitation of Life. I was given a lot of trouble about it because some readers complained that there was no main characer or plot arc. I'd try to explain that the photo was the lead character and would get these blank responses. Anyway, it's a relief to see someone pick up on that.
Hi Kathy! I appreciate your comments so much.

“I’m just sort of happy,” I tell her.
Just read "Disassembly" over at Guernica Mag. Simply amazing. The beginning of that last paragraph had me so full of anticipation and sadness. God, right on target.

Kathy,
I left a comment about your comment on Transference... ;)

Kathy,
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments on In The Lake. I appreciated your comment about leaving it ambiguous, but I felt it important that it be clear it is two sisters, rather than perhaps a sister and a brother in the short piece.
Many thanks, Kathy, for reading "Eddie Says" and your kind comments!

Kathy, Thanks so much for reading my story. I took a class once where we each brought in our favorite work by a real-deal author and someone read "my mother never wore bright lipstick" and it was all i could think about for many days. Your work is so, so good.

Thanks so much for commenting on my story! I appreciate your reading it and what you had to say.
Ok, I put a story up!
HI!
No, no one has ever told me that before! But I'll take it as a compliment. :-)

Kathy, how lovely of you to write a note on "Cracking Open." I greatly admire your work and appreciate your time and encouragement. Ha! You were eating dry roasted nuts at the time? Aren't these coincidences intriguing ... Thanks again.
