I'd try to explain that the photo was the lead character and would get these blank responses. Anyway, it's a relief to see someone pick up on that.

I am slowly catching up with all the wonderful stories here and this morning I read "Empty". What a wonderful story! I will add it to my teaching stories. I know those kids. I write about them, too, and their need for a dog. My most recent protagonist of an interconnected series of stories would love a dog, too, but so far he only has a parrot. I enjoyed your The Hollow. So much going on. Have you thought of developing it out into a longer form? It seems to sort of brim with itself, like it could easily spill over into a larger piece, if you were ever so inclined.
