Going Coconuts

by Chris Okum

So. Leave. If you want to leave, then leave. I'm not going to stop you. You're not a prisoner. The doors are open. I mean, it's going to make me sad, but I've been sad before. Other than that, I guess all I really have to say is that it's been a pleasure knowing you, and I wish you luck. I hope you figure out what you want. And I hope you get everything you need. Just remember that life out there is very unpredictable. People are going to say one thing and mean another. But by then it's too late. But If you think you know how to take care of yourself, then by all means. And I'm not trying to imply that you can't take care of yourself or that you need me to take care of you. You're perfectly able. All I'm trying to say is that sometimes it comes down to brute strength. I mean, look at you. You're not even five-feet tall. You weigh eighty pounds. Listen to me. I know some vegetables. Men who have been in high-speed accidents. They could take you. That's all I'm going to say. That this can be a very dangerous place. Especially for people like you. It's really. People are tired. Because nothing works. Everything has been disconnected. But this is about you and me. Even though I've never seen you look so beautiful. That's that white dress. I bought you that dress. I remember when I got you that dress. You're not leaving here with that dress. You're leaving here with what you came with, which is nothing. No money. No car. And no dress. You don't even have any friends to help you. Because all of your friends are my friends. And if you leave I don't think they're going to be your friends any more. So. Looks like you're going to have to make some new friends. Makes me feel kind of bad for you. Because it's hard to make new friends. Just remember that someone who wants to be your friend is someone you should try and avoid. I mean, if you can't, be nice to them, but plan your escape. These are the people I'm telling you about. They're like bombs. It's a death trip. Have we ever discussed death trips? Discorporation? Oh. You see that you don't see. That these are the kind of things we never had the time to discuss. That there is more to learn. Plus, I wrote a song. It's about us. And the time I bought you a chili dog.
